Programa Amigos do Mar – Institucional 12 anos – por Nivea Francisco
Seriousness and credibility. That is how the program ‘Amigos do Mar’, Friends of the Sea in English, has established its reputation. Created and presented by Nívea Alves Francisco, the program has been aired by local ‘Baixada Santista’TV channels since 2005. Nívea, a communications graduate, publicist and journalist, is passionate about Nature and the grandeur of the sea! She was born in Santos, a seaside resort and home to the biggest port in Latin America. Her experience on radio and TV have helped with great passion and commitment to consolidate the project on regional channels such as VTV, BAND and ‘Canal Universitário Santa Cecília’.
The content of the program ‘Amigos do Mar’ has received the support, respect and acknowledgment of the Brazilian armed Forces, having been awarded medals from the three branches. Because of this, the program was invited to accompany an expedition to Antarctic, the Strait of Magellan and Chilean Patagonia enabling the making of production of special programs, not to mention several other broadcasts based on vessels, Environmental Maritime Preservation Projects and strategic places such as the archipelagos of ‘Fernando de Noronha’ and ‘Alcatrazes’.
Nívea has also dealt with administrative and political topics by doing a post graduate degree in Environmental Management and Oceanography studies at USP, with in depth research regarding the issues that are part of life along our extensive coast.
The Content Platform for the program was created in 2011, where it is possible to access the site, videos and blogs, interacting with viewers.
Our programs have been viewed throughout the seven seas, sailing through all continents, connecting new users, interacting on social networks, sharing on the blog and videos of the VIMEO channel the natural paradises of our rivers, basin and ports on the more than 8.500 km of the Brazilian coast.
‘Amigos do Mar’ accompanied the Amazon River Pilots and after a ten-day mission returned to clarify how a pilot works in the biggest piloted area in the world, showing images of 4K of grandiose beauty.
Some of our videos have subtitles in English or another language when necessary. We have also been to London, at the headquarters of International Maritime Pilots Association: IMPA, based on the vessel ‘HQS Wellington’ on the river Thames.
We enjoy the institutional support of such authorities on the subject as the Brazilian Navy, Oceanographic Institute, as well as their broad scientific support, the University of São Paulo (USP), whose interviews and articles have contributed so much to enrich our program.
The Content Platform of ‘Amigos do Mar’ is the key in the process of raising awareness, encouraging in different ways respect, admiration and maritime mindset as well as a sense of protecting and preserving our ‘Amazonia Azul’ (the Blue Amazon).
The name Blue Amazon, given by the Brazilian Navy, is due to the enormous importance of this huge sea region, situated on the eastern border of Brazil, whose area strategic and economic potential are similar to the Green Amazon and which all Brazilians have an obligation to defend and protect.
